Dear Esteemed Guests,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 10th Annual Long Island Legacy Gala sponsored by the Islip Town Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. 2024 makes 60years since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Let us take this moment to renew our commitment to civil rights advancements and reforms.
As you may know, the Legacy Gala purposes to celebrate those who have created legacies on Long Island or who have continued the legacy of another. Tonight, we are privileged to have Roland Martin with us, a gentleman who has created a legacy of courageous conversations throughout the country and the world.
As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr this weekend, let’s remember to champion equality of opportunity at every juncture. In the words of Dr. King:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
It is up to each and every one of us to disrupt the corrupt and set right what’s in sight. God bless you and protect you as you work for peace, justice and the next best and right thing.
For Advancement,
William Moss
President and Co-Chair
